One of the
greatest challenges Nigerian bloggers and online publishers who use the popular
Google Adsense programme to make money on their websites and blogs face is
withdrawing their monthly earnings from Google Adsense. This challenge was as a
result of Google Adsense inability to pay Nigerian publishers via Adsense’
convenient and fast methods of payments like: The Electronic Fund Transfer,
Direct Bank Deposit and Western Union Money Transfer. For years now, Nigerian
publishers had been pleading with Google Adsense Team to please reconsider their
decision not to pay Nigerian publishers via Western Union Money Transfer but to
no avail.
I quite
understand Google Adsense standpoint not to pay Nigerians via Western Union
Money Transfer, but at the same time I feel it is not so fair to
judge an entire book by its cover- Nigerian online publishers (website owners, bloggers, third party site writers, freelance writers, etc) work so hard just like every other publisher around the world to earn their income online via Google Adsense programme, so I see no justifiable reason not to pay them through a convenient method that won’t put them in a tight corner. Anyway, this article is not meant to question Google Adsense on the reason why they blatantly refused to pay Nigerian publishers via Western Union Money Transfer, but to assist old and new publishers who earn money online using Google Adsense understand how they can cash out their Google Adsense monthly cheque in Nigeria.

How Do I Cash Out My Google Adsense
Cheque In Nigeria?
Remember, before you can cash out a Google Adsense cheque in Nigeria, you must have a domiciliary account with a local bank in Nigeria.
In order
words, let’s first look at how you can open a domiciliary account that will
enable you cashout your Google Adsense cheque through cheque deposit.
What is a domiciliary account?
A domiciliary
account, also known as a dom-account in short form, is a foreign currency
account.
Benefits of a domiciliary account
With a
domiciliary account, you can carry out most international bank transactions
like- receiving of international bank fund transfer. What do I mean by this? It
means that someone living in another country that is not Nigeria can transfer
fund to your dom-account from his/her country of location. All the person needs
is your bank account number and details, and then your bank swift code, which
will be given to you the moment you open a dom-account with any local bank in
Nigeria.
Another
benefit of a dom-account is that it makes it possible for you to deposit
international bank cheques into your account, just as you deposit a local
cheque into your local bank account. This is why you need a dom-account to cash
out your Google Adsense cheque in Nigeria.
How To Open A Domiciliary Account In
Nigeria
You can open
a dom-account with any local bank in Nigeria, but I would recommend GTBank and
Fidelity because they are the ones I am quite sure of.
Requirements for opening a
domiciliary account
An initial deposit
of $100 USA currency or its equivalent in any other foreign currency you want
your domiciliary account to be
A recent local
utility bill- PHCN (NEPA) bill, Water bill, Waste Mgt bill, etc
4 normal
colored passport photographs
A mode of
identification, preferably- International passport, National Identity card,
Drivers license, and Voter’s card
Final steps to open the dom-account
Let’s assume
you want to open your dom-account with Fidelity Bank plc, all you need to do is
to walk into any Fidelity bank plc branch office closest to you, ask for the
customer care.
Talk to the
customer care personnel that you want to open a domiciliary account.
Note: you will be asked to select the
currency you want your dom-account to be or simply the base currency of your
dom-account. Now remember, if you are opening this account basically for
cashing out your Google Adsense cheques, then you must make sure that the base
currency you choose for your dom-account matches with the currency you selected
as your payment currency on your Google Adsense account payment details, else,
you won’t be able to deposit your Google Adsense cheques on your newly opened
dom-account.
What do I
mean?
Let’s take
for instance, you selected euro as your Google Adsense payment currency in your
Adsense payment account details, and then you went ahead to open a dom-account
with dollar as the base currency, definitely, you cannot be able to pay in your
Google Adsense cheques into this dom-acccount because they are not in the same
currency, which means you will need to open another dom-account in euro
currency before you can pay in the Google Adsense euro cheque you received.
After
talking to the customer care personnel, he/she will give you a dom-account
opening form, kindly fill in the required information like you did when opening
your local bank account, and after that, return the completely filled form back
to the customer care together with your $100 or its equivalent euro or pound
currency as your initial deposit, and wait for them to open and activate your
dom-account, that’s it.
Alternatively, if you already operate an account
with Fidelity bank for instance, you can activate a dom-account using your
existing savings/current account with them without having to deposit any $100
or its equivalent in any other foreign currency you want your dom-account to
be.
Steps To Cash Out Google Adsense
Cheque In Nigeria
Below is a sample
of Google Adsense cheque sent to me, I attached it to give you a feel of how
Google Adsense cheque looks like in case you see one.
Note: I am assuming that you have already
opened a dom-account following the steps I narrated above, and I am also
assuming that you have already received or about to receive your first Google
Adsense cheque, and now ready to convert it into Nigerian naira.
Step one:
Walk into any
branch of the bank you opened your dom-account with, remember to go along with
your Google Adsense cheque. Go to where they deposit funds and tell the
personnel in charge that you want to deposit a foreign cheque. You will be
given a deposit slip to fill.
Step two:
Fill in the
deposit slip as required, and then return it with the cheque back to the cash
collector, and that’s it.
An
equivalent amount of money written on the cheque will reflect in your
dom-account within two to three weeks of deposit, but you will be charged a
processing fee because Google Cheques are only payable through Citi Bank, so it
is the duty of your chosen local bank to process and clear the cheque through
international cheque clearance order to be able to pay you the money written on
your Google Adsense cheque. The processing fee varies from bank to bank.
If you have
any question on how to cash out your Adsense cheque in Nigeria or any other
related question, please feel free to ask anytime any day. Wishing you the best
of good luck in your online business endeavor.
