Air China warns travelers to watch out for “Indians, Pakistanis and black people” in London
Air China execs must not have noticed the international uproar sparked by a Chinese detergent company‘s racist ad earlier this year. In the September issue of its inflight magazine, the Chinese airline wholeheartedly embraced racial stereotypes, warning travelers to avoid areas of London inhabited by “Indians, Pakistanis and black people.”
Wings of China is a bilingual publication. The Chinese-language version of the tip describes areas populated by Indians, Pakistanis and black people as “relatively more chaotic.”
CNBC Beijing correspondent Haze Fan was flying with China’s state-owned airline, when she noticed the “Tips from Air China” section. Fan tweeted the picture to Sadiq Khan, London’s British-Pakistani mayor.

“London is generally a safe place to travel, however precautions are needed when entering areas mainly populated by Indians, Pakistanis and black people,” reads Wings of China in English, CNBC reports. “We advise tourists not to go out alone at night, and females always to be accompanied by another person when traveling.”
