Stop Fighting Corruption with Mouth, Set up Public Complaint Bureau – Cleric tells Buhari

President Mu­hammadu Bu­hari has been urged to estab­lish a Public Complaint Bureau (PCB) to aid his fight against cor­ruption.



The General Overseer of Abundant Life Evangel Mission (ALEM), Apostle Eugene Ogu, made the call at the weekend, in Port Harcourt, stressing that the president could not tackle the menace alone.

The cleric accused Nige­rian past leaders of being responsible for the present state of the country.

He decried the level of corruption in all sectors in the country, especially in the Police and judiciary, saying that the country was in dire need of divine inter­vention.

The Port Harcourt-based cleric stated further that, persons to be appointed into the offices of Attor­ney-General and Inspector- General of Police should be all-round outstanding because of the sensitive na­ture of the positions to na­tion building.

He attributed the spate of crime and corruption in the country to the self-help aggrieved persons resort to, when they could not get justice, either from the po­lice or court.

“Buhari cannot fight cor­ruption alone. But, he must make sure that, whoever they are putting into office beginning from first: the Attorney-General; second, Inspector-General of Po­lice, should be thoroughly looked at.

“I really blame our past leadership of this coun­try right from the days of the military. Our country has witnessed and experi­enced a situation, where, you catch a criminal today, take him to the police; from there, a window of escape, in so many places, is cre­ated,” he lamented.

According to him: “Why we witness this lawlessness is because you are not sure taking a case to the Attor­ney-General, Police, EFCC or DSS’ office, would en­sure justice. Most times, you, who make the com­plaint, become the accused.

“So, until this system changes, you would see corruption everywhere you go in our country. So, Mr. President should, as a mat­ter of fact, set up a Public Complaint Bureau (PCB); where those people, whose cases have been distorted and messed up, either in the office of the attorney-general, court or elsewhere, can make a complaint, so that they can look into it. There is a lot of corruption everywhere, that is why you see things go the way they go now.”

He expressed worry that the society did not want to hear sound gospel from genuine clergies, which had led to increased cor­ruption and moral deca­dence in the society.

“In fact, we have found ourselves in a situation, where everybody must take responsibility for the situ­ation we found ourselves. No exemption.

“The Nigerian system is so complicated and con­fused that it requires a complete surgical opera­tion in every sector, from the church, to the police, public service, everywhere. Nigeria is in urgent need of deliverance,” he sermon­ized.
