In what is shaping up to be the biggest year in history for
automotive recalls, Ford has issued another safety recall in North America for
a fuel tank issue affecting almost half a million cars in the US, Mexico and
Canada.
The cars in question are the 2010 and 2011 Ford Fusion and
Mercury Milan and the potential problem revolves around the fuel tank.
Some cars may have a canister purge valve issue meaning that
pressure could potentially build up in the fuel tank without being able to
dissipate. This could lead to a crack in the tank and a fuel leak.
This is the 12th recall that the company has issued in 2015
for issues other than those related to the Takata airbag scandal and brings the
number of affected cars beyond the 3 million mark in North America alone -- six
times the number of vehicles that the VW Group will have to recall due to its
emissions testing defeat device.
