The fuchsia carpet was rolled out, the star guestlist arrived, and Schiaparelli opened Day 2 of Paris Haute Couture with its first show since 1954!
Though Christian Dior is one of the most anticipated shows of the Haute Couture season, this year, Schiaparelli stole the limelight on Day 2 with designer Marco Zanini’s couture debut for the Italian fashion house.
Schiaparelli: Against All Odds
The collection was non-conformist and witty; as shoe-shaped hats, carrots for buttons and jackets that turned inside-out formed part of the looks that were reminiscent the great works of John Galliano back in his heyday.
Inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli’s eclectic personality, the collection explores irreverence in beauty and elegance. The designer explains, “[her] soul is rendered through hand-painted prints, bold motifs, elaborate embroideries, clashing colours contrasting pastels and neutrals, masculine tailoring, languid draping and exquisite jewelry.” The result: a true mix of fine craftsmanship and a show full of spirit and surprise.
