Michael Essien has announced the death of his
father James
Essien who passed away last weekend, a few days before the
crucial Ghana-Zambia World Cup 2014 qualifiers holding in Kumasi, Ghana.
The Chelsea FC star who arrived Ghana Yesterday, September 1, 2013 took to Twitter to announce his father’s death. ‘It’s hard to take but God knows best.Thanks a lot for the support and well wishes.R.I.P Father.!!‘
Minutes after, the official Chelsea Twitter handle also announced the death; ‘Everybody at Chelsea FC is saddened to hear of the passing of Michael Essien’s dad. Our thoughts are with him‘.
Essien returned to Chelsea after a one-year lone deal with Real Madrid.
He is part of a 26-man squad called up by Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah for the match against Zambia. He is also expected to play in an international friendly against Japan on September 10.
