The internet is no doubt a blessing to the world, but we cannot deny its negative influences on peoples' way of life today, especially the negative influence of internet social media on kids, which is a major reason why parents must strive to prevent their little children from having unmonitored access to internet social media platforms.
In a recent development, a group by name: The Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) made an outcry on the negative influence of social media on kids.

The Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), on
Friday, decried the negative influence of the social media on children.
Bayo Banjo, the group’s president, said that
negative use of the media could lead to higher wave of cybercrime among
children.
He said that some websites were still
publishing implicit contents that could corrupt children.
The NIG chief advised parents and schools to
exercise requisite control on the use of social media by children.
“In the school setting, we now have ICT
centre with cyber café, hence schools and parents should also beware of the
disadvantages of these facilities,” he said.
“That is why schools should have teachers who
will be in charge of this facility to guide and monitor what the students are
doing. This is because there are certain pages and websites they should not be
allowed to visit.”
He also called for caution in the use of
other ICT tools to enhance learning.
Mr Banjo advised children to emulate their
counterparts in developed countries who were making positive contributions to
their society through the use of the social media.
“I am imploring the children to emulate their
counterparts in advanced countries like Japan, Germany and the U.S. who are
making positive contributions to their society,” he said. “Those are the kind
of people they should be interacting with on the net, not those using the
avenue for immoral things.”
Banjo advised students to use the social
media positively to improve their knowledge.
The expert, however, decried government’s
move to regulate the use of social media, stressing that such action would
infringe the right of the users as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.
