A stuntman died yesterday during a world record attempt as he tried to cross a river on a zip-wire attached only to his hair. Sailendra Nath Roy, 50, was half way through the stunt when his ponytail became stuck in the wheeler of the rope and he was left hanging in mid-air for about 25 minutes. 

Despite desperate attempts to free himself, it is believed Mr Roy then suffered a major cardiac arrest and died. May his soul rest in peace...amen. Another photo when you continue but viewers discretion is advised

Man Sentenced To 45 Years In Prison For Stealing Governor’s Phone

An Osogbo High Court yesterday sentenced a 31-year-old man, Kelvin Igha-Igbodalo to 45 years imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing a Sony Ericson phone belonging to Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola.

Igha-Igbodalo is alleged to have stolen Aregbesola’s phone during the swearing-in ceremony of the governor in 2010. The convict used the phone to dupe many unsuspecting people by directing them to pay money into a particular bank account on pretext that it was the governor's directive. Click to continue.


The ex-convict was eventually arrested and charged with six counts of conspiracy, obtaining properties by false pretence, stealing, impersonation and advance free fraud. Igha-Igbodalo pleaded guilty to the charges slammed against him and Justice Oyejide Falola sentenced him to 45 years imprisonment to run concurrently without an option of fine.

If Lagos-based Customs officer, Mr. James Gadzama Pallam had known, he would have thought of another way to honour his brother, Emmanuel, whose wedding he attended in Maiduguri, Borno State on April 7, 2013 with seven members of his family.

Mr. Pallam, an Inspector, had travelled from Madagali in Adamawa State, for the wedding and till today, the family of eight are still missing. American Based Nigerian Supermodel, Oluchi Gets Exclusive Right To Host Africa's “Next Top Model”!

Last night, CBS Studios International announced that they have given Nigerian supermodel Oluchi’s production company, LuLu Productions the African format rights for hit reality TV show competition, ‘America’s Next Top Model’.


The Reality show competition series, which will be shot primarily on location in South Africa, is slated to hit screens this 2013.

And will air on the M-NET Africa Magic channels with Oluchi Orlandi serving as the show’s host and executive producer.

Professor Wole Soyinka Wins Anisfield-Wolf Lifetime Achievement Award!

The 1986 Nobel Laureate in Literature, Professor Wole Soyinka on Monday in America, won the Lifetime Achievement award of the annual Anisfield-Wolf Book Award.

The other winners are Andrew Solomon for Far From The Tree (Non-Fiction), Eugene Gloria for My Favorite Warlord (Poetry), Kevin Powers for The Yellow Birds (Fiction) and Laird Hunt for Kind One (Fiction).

This was the 78th edition of the award organised by The Root and sponsored by the Cleveland Foundation. Past winners include Derek Walcott, Toni Morrison, Nadine Gordimer and Wole Soyinka before they won the Nobel Prize.

On Thursday, 25th April, a ghastly motor accident occurred along Owerri-Port Harcourt expressway, just aftera the Obinze Army Barracks, a few meters after the entrance of Arab Contractors Nig Ltd,  involving a Petrol Tanker and a bus carrying full load of passengers....


Unfortunately, three passengers died on the spot including the driver, while two other passengers died later at the hospital. As if that was not enoughon Friday a Sienna coming from Owerri and heading to Imo state Polytechnic  Ohaji somersaulted severally on the same spot. The car was seriously damaged but thankfully the three occupants came out alive.

Tuesday, a man was caught on that same spot with charms doing what was best known to him in a language most people didn't understand. He was promptly surrounded by the youths of Ohaji and the man was taken to the Eze who handed him over to the police.

President Goodluck Awards $40 Million Contract To An Israeli Company To Monitor Internet & ICT Communications Made By Nigerians!

The Jonathan administration secretly, and in open violation of lawful contracting procedures, has awarded an Israeli firm, Elbit Systems, with headquarters in Haifa, a $40million contract to help it spy on citizens’ computers and Internet communications under the guise of intelligence gathering and national security.

Elbit announced the contract award Wednesday in a global press release but was silent on the Nigerian destination of the contract. Its general manager, Yehuda Vered, opaquely announced that “Elbit Systems will supply its Wise Intelligence Technology (WiT) system to an unnamed country in Africa under a new $40 million contract announced on 24 April… for Intelligence Analysis and Cyber Defense,” but effusively claimed, in the statement, that his company is “proud to be selected to supply this unique system, which is already field-proven, fully operational and customizable.

Why You Should Not Use A Mobile Phone

Using a mobile phone is contagious, a new study has found. 

Researchers concluded that a person was twice as likely to talk on a mobile, or check for messages, if a companion did the same.

The University of Michigan study discovered that checking a phone created an “alternative outlet” for a person's attention.

It also found that females were more likely to use their mobile than men because it was more “integrated into the daily lives of women”.

Ghana Government Seizes 110Million Bad Condoms!

More than 110 million Chinese-made condoms have been seized in Ghana after laboratory tests revealed they were faulty, Ghanaian officials have said.

“There are holes in them and… the condoms burst easily,” a Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) spokesman told the BBC.

The condoms were being distributed free as part of an HIV/Aids prevention campaign by the Ghana Health Service.

About 200 million of the faulty condoms are believed to have been imported into the country.
The BBC’s Sammy Darko in the capital, Accra, says the condom packaging is white with a red Aids ribbon incorporated into the design and the words “be safe” also in red.

The FDA has issued an alert about their safety.

Imo Government Commences Recruitment Of Graduate Trainees!

Imo govt commences recruitment of graduate trainees. The Imo state Ministry of Public Utilities, Public Safety and Youth Entrepreneurship has commenced the recruitment of trainees for the Imo Tobacco Control Programme.

The Commissioner in-charge of the ministry, Dr Iheanyi Nwachukwu, said in a statement in Owerri on Tuesday that only degree holders in public administration or the sciences were eligible to apply. Nwachukwu called on eligible applicants to pick the recruitment forms from his office, adding that such forms should be returned on or before April 28. The commissioner said the graduates would be trained to become smoking advisors and specialist stop smoking advisors. He said they would start work immediately on completion of the training, stressing that it was part of the state government’s efforts to provide basic amenities for the people. (NAN).

Note: It is strictly for degree graduates of Public admisnistration or and pure sciences. Recruitment open for both indigenes and non indigenes of Imo state.

25 Year Old DJ Shot Dead In Lagos (PHOTO)

The residents of Bank Olemoh Street, Surulere, Lagos, were terrified on Monday when two gunmen shot dead Olamide George, a 25-year-old deejay.

According to eyewitnesses, the assassination was carried out at about 2pm while George was with friends under a tree, popularly known as Abe Igi.

It was learnt that just before his murder, George reportedly answered a phone call, and the caller requested to know where he was. George answered that he was at Abe Igi.

Private jet owners in Nigeria to pay luxury tax- FG!

The Federal Government is planning to impose a form of luxury tax on owners and operators of private jets in the country, top officials of the Ministry of Aviation have confirmed.

The plan, currently being fine-tuned by the Aviation Reform Committee, which is also looking into certain areas of the aviation sector, will be perfected very soon.

According to the top government officials close to the move, the plan to impose the luxury tax will be preceded by the new general aviation policy, which is currently being drafted by the government.

Ahead of the release of the general aviation policy, the Aviation ministry has reviewed the 2006 Civil Aviation Act, which will lead to the promulgation of a new Act.

Cotonou Car-Market Is Used For Money-Laundering And Drug-Trafficking, Says US Govt!

The huge market of second hand or used cars, popularly called ‘Tokunbo’ usually brought into Nigeria from the United States through Cotonou in Benin republic may have suffered a fatal blow following findings by the American authorities that the vehicles are proceeds of drug trafficking and money laundering by some criminal networks operating in Lebanon and Africa.

The report of the investigations by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA named two Lebanese exchange houses, Kassem Rmeiti & Co. For Exchange (Rmeiti Exchange) and Halawi Exchange Co. (Halawi Exchange), as conduits through which hundreds of millions of dollars are moved in cash into the U.S to buy cars which are then shipped to Cotonou where most ‘Tokunbo’ cars on Nigerian roads are brought into the country. The implication of the U.S action is that the syndicate will no longer have access to buy American used cars for shipment to Cotonou and this will largely affect the prices of used cars sold in Nigeria.

A new smartphone app is on hand to help Icelanders avoid accidental incest, in a country with a population of 320,000 where almost everyone is distantly related, posing a real risk of inadvertently kissing cousins.

The app lets users "bump" phones, and emits a warning alarm if they are closely related. "Bump the app before you bump in bed," says the catchy slogan, and some are hailing it as a welcome solution to a very Icelandic form of social embarrassment.

The Islendiga-App - App Of Icelanders - is an idea that may only be possible in Iceland, where most of the population shares descent from a group of ninth-century Viking settlers, and where an online database holds genealogical details of almost the entire population.

The app was created by three University of Iceland software engineering students for a contest calling for "new creative uses" of the Islendingabok, or Book of Icelanders, an online database of residents and their family trees stretching back 1,200 years.
