Kogi State Governor Idris Wada Injured In Auto Crash

Governor Idris Wada of kogi state was on Friday involved in a ghastly motor accident along Ajaokuta-Lokoja road on his way to Lokoja, the state capital, after attending the annual Igala education summit held at the Kogi State University, Anyigba.

Eyewitness inform that the governor’s convoy, which was on high speed in order to meet up with another assignment in Lokoja on getting to Emi-Woro village in Ajaokuta local government area of the state, about 12 kilometer to the state capital when one of the tyres of the staff jeep suddenly bust off, causing it to somersault three times and multiple crashes by all the vehicles in the convoy.

"In the process the jeep driver lost control and ended up in a ditch leading to the death of the governor Aide-de-camp [ADC], Idris Mohammed, an Assistant Superintendent of Police [ASP] who died on the spot."

Other members of the governor’s aides who were on the convoy immediately rushed the governor to the state specialist hospital where the governor was taken into the emergency care unit for treatment.

However, newsmen were prevented from having access to the governor and to know his state of health as heavily armed security agents were deployed to the hospital.

Also in Government House, heavily armed security agents were also on guard preventing both workers and newsmen from entering the complex. Those allowed to enter the office were close aides of the governor and all of them declined to talk to the press.

But sources close to the hospital informed reporters that in order to save the life of the governor, doctors advised that he should be taken to National Hospital, Abuja for urgent treatment.

Immediately after this information was divulged, a Kogi state government house ambulance with registration number KG33 was seen driving toward the emergency unit. Within a minute, security agents took over the unit preventing newsmen from taking pictures of the governor until he was taken into the ambulance and driven out with high speed to Abuja.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Bologi Yabagi has confirmed the incident. In a press statement, Yabagi said the governor survived the road mishap and is in a stable condition.

He explained that Wada was taken to Abuja in order to rest and also receive better medical treatment.

Reports reaching us say that governor Idris Wada of Kogi State may have lost one of his legs in the fatal road accident that immediately killed his aide.

Doctors at the Lokoja Specialist Hospital, where Mr. Wada received first aid treatment, say his leg is "totally broken".

The governor was brought into the intensive care unit with a severely fractured femur, a senior government official said. He added that the doctors said the governor is in good condition and did not sustain major head or spinal cord injuries.

"There is hope," he said.

The state government arranged for a helicopter which flew the governor to the National Hospital in Abuja.

The governor is in "serious pains," the aide, who saw the governor at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, said.
