According to ijreviews, kids visiting the famed Iowa State Fair this weekend will have the opportunity to take a free ride in the Donald’s helicopter, after all.
According to The Daily Mail, the 2016 presidential candidate was previously told that he couldn’t set up his $7 million helicopter at the state fair. But he’s managed to avoid the ban by offering the rides in a parking lot outside the annual fair in Des Moines.
Trump told the Daily Mail that he may even go up in the chopper on some of the rides, after using it to make a grand entrance to the event.
He also announced his intentions on Twitter Saturday morning, as he set off to the Hawkeye state:
The business tycoon will hold a press conference during the state fair, a must-hit campaign stop for all presidential candidates. Both Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bushvisited on Friday, and nearly all of the other candidates are expected to make appearances between now and the fair’s final day, on the 23rd.
Trump initially disclosed his plans to give out free helicopter rides in an interview with the Daily Mail two weeks ago, billing it as the main attraction in this year’s fair.
He said, at the time:
“We’re going to fly it out to Iowa and I’m going to have it there… I’m going to try giving kids lifts in the helicopter. You know, young kids. Yeah! If I can do it – if I’m allowed to do it!”
Trump added that his campaign was in the process of getting approval to give the rides from the event’s organizers. A spokeswoman for the state fair told the Des Moines Register that Trump didn’t ask for permission, nor would he be granted permission if he asked for it:
“He is welcome to land his helicopter anywhere outside the grounds and take people on rides or whatever he would like to do. But that will not be happening on Iowa State Fair grounds.”
The billionaire businessman owns three helicopters, two in the U.S. and one in Europe. The Sikorsky helicopter that is making its way to Iowa is primarily stationed in New York City.
According to CNBC, the businessman purchased it earlier this year, spending somewhere between $5 and $7 million on the helicopter and another $750,000 on opulent renovations by designer Eric Roth:
Among the upgrades that guests aboard the chopper will get to view are its cream-colored, Italian-leather seats, Trump-branded ice water and 18-karat gold-plated seat belt buckles.
