Men of the Nigeria Customs Service, on Wednesday intercepted a top Nigerian professor carrying $1 million cash at the Muritala Muhammed Airport on his way to Kenya.
The Customs Area Comptroller at the airport, Charles Edike, disclosed that the rogue professor had been handed over to the EFCC for investigation and prosecution.
The senior professor [names withheld] was said to have declared the money to customs officers at the airport, but “the source of the money was not clear.”
“He claimed to be the director of a company, A-Z Petroleum. He said he was carrying the money to Kenya to settle a dispute with a community over oil blocks. We were not comfortable with what he said, we have handed him over to the EFCC,” Mr. Edike said.
Olufamous.com gathered from a source that preliminary findings indicated that the Prof may not be telling the truth as the money is likely owned by a politician he has connections with.
