Nigerian Divisional Police Officer Shoots Man To Death In Kwara State!

The fragile peace in Offa, Kwara State, after a clash with neighbouring Erin Ile community, has been punctured again with the alleged killing of a middle-aged man, on Friday morning, by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)in charge of the Railway Station in the town.

It was gathered that the deceased, who had come to visit his elder brother, Jinanwa Nwakanma (from Enugu State), a motor spare parts seller at Owode market, went to ease himself in the bush behind the police station when he was allegedly shot dead by the policechief.

Spare parts sellers in the town, who are mostlyIgbo, it was learnt, thereafter trooped to the police station to express their displeasure.
Though there was no pandemonium in the town as a result of the alleged killing, there was palpable apprehension among the people.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Fabode (DSP), said he was yet to be briefed on the development.
He promised to give details of the development as soon as he received information from his colleagues in Offa.

In another development, a graduate of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, Ovei Sabo, was, on Thursda, hacked to death by suspected cultists.
The victim was alleged to belong to a rival cultgroup before he graduated from the institutiona few years ago.
The killing, it was learnt, took place in front of a place called Students’ Village, Ombi 1, around 11.30 p.m.
A student of the institution, who spoke with Saturday Tribune on the condition of anonymity, connected the latest hostility between the cult groups to superiority contest and fight over girlfriends.

About 30 arrests are said to have been made so far in connection with the killing and the suspects are reported to be assisting the police in their investigations.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Michael Ada, confirmed the killing, but said, “I cannot say anything now until after the investigations.”
